Draw a Field Boundary: KML, KMZ, or Shapefile
Outline a field on satellite imagery, cut out anything that shouldn't be flown or farmed, and download it as KML, KMZ, or a shapefile. No GIS software needed.
Draw: pick the polygon or rectangle tool at the top left of the map, click each corner, then click the first corner to finish.
Edit: the pencil moves corners; drag a midpoint to add one. The scissors cut a hole (a farmstead or pond).
Saved as you go in this browser only. Place search is sent to OpenStreetMap; your shapes never leave this tab.

- Flight planning: download KML, then turn it into a mapping route with the KML to FlightHub 2 tool.
- Farm software: upload the shapefile zip to Operations Center or FieldView as a field boundary.
- Sharing: KML and KMZ open in Google Earth on any phone or computer.
Questions
How do I draw a field?
Search for the town or road, or use My location, and zoom in on the field. Pick the polygon tool at the top left of the map, click each corner, then click the first corner again to close it. The rectangle tool is quicker for square fields. The acreage appears in the list as soon as the shape is closed.
How do I leave out a farmstead, pond, or waterway?
Use the scissors tool and draw around the area to remove. It becomes a hole in the field, the acreage drops to match, and the hole is kept in KML, KMZ, and shapefile downloads.
Which format should I download?
KML or KMZ for Google Earth, DJI FlightHub 2 map layers, and our KML to FlightHub 2 route tool. A shapefile for John Deere Operations Center, Climate FieldView, and GIS software.
Can I edit a boundary I already have?
Yes. Choose Open KML / KMZ and its boundaries are added to the map, ready to edit, rename, or add to. This tool draws boundaries only, so any lines or points in the file are left out. Then download in any format.
What if I close the tab?
Your drawing is saved in this browser as you work and comes back when you return on the same device. It isn't sent anywhere, so it won't appear on another computer. Download a file to keep a copy.
Is anything sent to a server?
Your shapes are not. The only thing that leaves the browser is a place search, which goes to OpenStreetMap to find the location. Typing latitude, longitude skips that entirely.
